The health system in Australia is facing a crisis.
But the question is how to fix it.
The Aged Care Council of Australia says the problem is complex and that the solution is more focused on the aged and those who have limited health resources.
But it has highlighted a new problem.
It says the Government’s “pipeline” is not working for the elderly.
“It is a pipeline of services and services which have been built around the idea that the elderly are going to have an increased need for care,” said Catherine MacGregor, the council’s executive director.
“We think there is a significant gap in the delivery of health and social services for the older population in Australia.”
The fact that the government is investing heavily in the aged care system is a missed opportunity.
“The Council says the ageing population is a critical issue.”
What is important to recognise is that the ageing of our population is actually a very real, very pressing issue that we must tackle,” Ms MacGregory said.”
And the way to tackle this is by creating an age-appropriate system which will be effective at delivering social and health care.
