By MATT LEHRNER and MARK FELTMANNew York — A Japanese beauty brand has introduced a new product for aging women.
The brand, Nissin Cosmetics, announced Thursday that it will begin selling a serum containing the anti-aging ingredient Nissini, a synthetic version of the Japanese tree of life known as the yam.
The serum contains Nissinis extracts that help fight aging, said Nissinkis CEO Hiroki Fujimoto.
It will cost 3,300 yen ($27) and is available starting April 7.
The company says the Nissinas anti-ageing ingredients are not approved by the FDA for human use.
Nissinks anti-oxidants help prevent free radicals, which are known to damage skin cells and cause wrinkles and age spots.
It also helps prevent cell damage.
Nissin said it received FDA approval to use Nissinnis extracts in the serum in January 2018.
In a statement, the FDA said the FDA’s evaluation found the formulation of Nissins anti-skin product did not meet the FDA safety and effectiveness standards.
